Held on the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of May and a date has not been set yet for 2027. Owara Nagashi is an incredibly graceful, slowly moving dance procession. One performance is in the late afternoon along the Asano river with children participating and the second after sunset with dancers and musicians wearing matching yukatas and straw hats weaving along the lantern lit stone laid streets framed by wooden tea houses, both in Higashi-Chaya. The dance culminates with a circle being formed and anyone can join in the dance (don’t worry about singing along). A very unique experience so arrive 15min early to get a front row on the alley. Walk around afterwards and soak in the atmosphere and maybe pop into one of the old style cocktail bars.
