Japan’s high school Sumo Tournament is held at the top of Utatsuyama and had its 110th edition in 2025. Teams from across Japan compete and aspiring sumo wrestlers begin their journey. The stands of the outdoor arena are filled with students yelling support to their teams along with school bands and cheerleading squads making it a raucous, unique event.  To say it is lively is an understatement.Take a taxi up the hill then after the sumo enjoy the peaceful 25minute walk down to the back side of Higashi-chaya.
