Abare Matsuri

The Abare Matsuri or Rampage Festival in Noto City lives up to its name. Thought to have its origins back 350years, portable shrines are paraded around town and decorated lanterns are mounted on large wooden structures. At night, 7 meter tall torches are set ablaze, lighting up the dark streets as taiko drums fill the air. Saturday night is what this is known for as Friday night is repeated then the portable shrines are smashed to the ground then tossed into the river, gathered up and thrown into a bonfire. Words don’t describe it so look up images. It as a 2hour drive from Kanazawa Station and hotels book out quickly so its necessary to plan well ahead. https://en.japantravel.com/ishikawa/abare-matsuri/61208
