Johana Hikiyama Festival

Johana Hikiyama Festival dates back 300 years. May 4 is considered the pre-festival (Yoimiya) 6-10pm with glowing, beautifully decorated floats. The main festival (Hon-Matsuri) is a parade of portable shrines, lion dances and massive floats pulled around the city center. Centered around the Shinmei-gu Shrine, this is a religious festival with participants depicting various themes, people singing on floats and in the evening paper lanterns change the atmosphere so try to go at night. It is a 40minute drive from Kanazawa station.
